Training in the vocational school  in the learning areas:

A journeyman's examination takes place after three and a half years of training .

After the education

The trained tank and apparatus builder can be employed as an assembly mechanic and system fitter, foreman, flame separator, machine operator, (pipe) welder, machine fitter or in customer service .

Later, the journeyman can take the examination as a master vessel and apparatus builder. There is also the opportunity to become self-employed and then study mechanical engineering .

requirements

School requirement

A secondary school leaving certificate is sufficient to practice the profession . Good school grades in the subjects of technology or handicrafts , mathematics and physics are indications of suitability for the profession . In 2015, 65% of the trainees in the profession had a secondary school leaving certificate, 29% had a secondary school leaving certificate , 6% had a university entrance qualification and a further 6% had previously attended a vocational school or completed a year of vocational preparation .

Personal aptitude, interests and skills

The trainees should be interested in cutting with scissors , saws , flame cutting and other tools, installing and assembling systems, deforming metal parts ( bending , pressing , rolling , deep-drawing or straightening ), checking systems and component groups, the area and volume calculation of individual systems and the search for the cause of individual technical errors and malfunctions. Among the required competencies include craft skills , technical understanding, good hand-eye coordination , body control and spatial imagination , diligence , prudence , performance and operational readiness , an ability to work independently as well as team skills for working in groups.

Physical fitness and health aspects

For the proper execution of some activities, good physical strength for heavy components, functionality of the arms and hands for processing the components, a head for heights for work at great heights, close vision to be able to work well with technical drawings , construction and assembly plans and a resilient one Cardiovascular system during physical exertion. For health reasons, this occupation is not recommended for people with muscle weakness, lack of muscle strength, impaired functionality of the arms and hands, dizziness, poor eyesight, chronic heart and circulatory diseases, metabolic diseases and / or chronic stomach and intestinal problems. They should also be able to deal with noise, strong smells and dust. It is therefore usually necessary to wear protective clothing and equipment (e.g. safety shoes with steel caps, hearing protection , protective shields or goggles ). In addition, there is a risk of accidents during assembly work and a risk of falling at great heights.

Other requirements

A welding license and a class B driving license may be required for some activities .

job profile

Application area
