Bella Australia is a German comedy directed by Vivian Naefe from 2012 and the second episode of the TV series Bella with Andrea Sawatzki in the lead role.

action

Isabella Jung, called Bella by everyone , lives alone with her daughter Lena in a city apartment in Kreuzberg after separating from her husband . At Lena's graduation party, they appear to everyone as a seemingly happy family, but Martin wants a divorce from his wife. He wants to become self-employed and Bella would then be responsible as a co-sponsoring wife, which Martin supposedly does not want her to do.

Lena surprises her parents that after graduating from high school , she will go to Australia as an au pair for a year . Without a husband and daughter, Bella now feels really superfluous and would love to go with Lena. After all, she doesn't really keep anything here anymore and her job in the technology call center doesn't satisfy her either. On the spur of the moment, she informs herself on the Internet and finds a suitable job application in Australia. However, she has not worked in her apprenticeship for years and she lacks some of the prerequisites for a professionally justified stay abroad. As a real power woman, she does not take it so easily and takes an English course first. Then she tries to refresh her knowledge and skills in physiotherapy, or at least to receive a certificate of proficiency. For this purpose, the "oasis" is recommended. She goes there immediately, but hesitates, as you can expect special services here for a certain surcharge, which Bella is not ready to deliver.

As so often, Bella discusses her daily worries with her friends in “Antonia's Bar”. In view of his imminent divorce, Sebastian has hopes for Bella, which seem to be shattered when he learns Bella's intention to emigrate. Lena tries to mediate and "bequeaths" Sebastian her room to her mother. But she forgets to tell her about this too, and so Sebastian suddenly stands half-naked in front of her and her sister, who wanted to “rent” a room with her because of a marriage crisis.

Bella's goal of getting a work permit for Australia leads her to come back to the oasis. To get the required certificate of competence, she enters into a deal with the owner. An employee of the Australian embassy, who thinks Bella's certificate of qualification is dubious, visits the oasis and gives the trade inspectorate a tip to check the alleged massage parlor. Bella and her colleagues Kristina and Maike are arrested during the raid, but thanks to Martin's help, they are quickly released. Bella realizes that she doesn't really want to go to Australia, but otherwise she has caused quite a mess that has robbed two completely bystanders of their jobs. To make amends, she takes over the "oasis" while the owner is in prison.

Shortly before the divorce date, Bella meets with Martin again and since it is getting late, she lets him spend the night in her apartment. So Sebastian and Martin meet in Bella's hallway and it is clear to them that they are trying to find the same woman, but not admitting it to each other. Martin tries to withdraw the divorce because his attempt to start his own business has failed. But Bella insists that she will now have her own company and that Martin does not want to be involved legally.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv assessed: “The daughter is fully fledged, the marriage failed, the career a phantom. After “Bella Vita”, 'Bella Australia' tells of a woman in her mid-40s and her friends on her zigzag course through the zeitgeist. 'Bella Australia' impales longings and ideal images, not without showing their contradictions. The dialectic of the strange behavior of the enlightened city dweller after the actual mating season plays the main role alongside Andrea Sawatzki in this successful ZDF comedy, which is excellently cast down to the smallest supporting role. "

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm gave the best rating (thumbs up) and said: "Nice comedy about castles in the air, dreams of life and aging, in which Lisa Martinek, as Bella's sister, especially delights Eva with pointed slogans." Conclusion: "For everyone, who still have dreams ... "

At faz.net , Laura Gispert judged: “You can feel that the director Vivian Naefe and the leading actress Andrea Sawatzki approach this women's story with enthusiasm. The writers and directors always go so far with their trials and tribulations that the comedy succeeds and does not become a joke. It shouldn't be the last time that we get to see something from this Bella. "
