Ben Murphy (actor)
Benjamin Edward "Ben" Murphy (* 6. March 1942 in Jonesboro , Arkansas as Benjamin Edward Lesse Castleberry ) is an American actor .
Life
Ben Murphy is the son of Ben Castleberry and his wife Nadine. When he was two years old, his parents divorced. After that, Ben lived on his grandparents' farm in Memphis , Tennessee . After his father's death in 1956, his mother married Patrick Henry Murphy, who then adopted Ben. The family soon moved to Clarendon Hills , a suburb of Chicago . Ben Murphy has been to eight different colleges , including the University of Illinois and the Universidad de los Americas in Mexico City . From 1978 until the divorce in 1981 he was married to Jeanne Davis. She was then a purser at Pan Am , but later became a writer and screenwriter and, in 2006, director of The Uniform Motion of Folly , in which Murphy had a major role. Ben Murphy is also an avid tennis player. Already in the 1970s he was reasonably successful. He played tournaments even at an advanced age.
Career
By his own admission, Ben Murphy was primarily interested in acting and women at university. After graduation, he went to the Pasadena Playhouse from 1964 to 1966 , where he earned a degree in theater studies. This earned him a small role in Mike Nichols' film The Graduation (his first film appearance) and a contract with Universal in 1967 . In 1968 he again had a small role in Melville Shavelson's film Your, Mine, Ours ; it should already be his last well-known film.
In the same year he had his first appearances in series, for example in two episodes of The People of Shiloh Ranch . Soon he also had the role of Joe Sample in the series The Name of the Game in 12 episodes . His greatest success from 1971 to 1973 was the role of train and bank robber Jed 'Kid' Curry aka Thaddeus Jones, one of the title roles in the series Alias Smith and Jones . Even after that he was used several times in the main cast of series, such as in Griff as Mike Murdoch , in Gemini Man as Sam Casey , in Lottery as Patrick Sean Flaherty or in Dirty Dozen: The Series as Lieutenant Danko. However, none of these series were very successful and were canceled after the first season. Ben Murphy also starred in the miniseries The Long Trek as Will Chisholm and The Firestorm as Warren Henry. In the mid-1970s, he also starred in several films such as Runaway! , Heatwave! See , This Is the West That Was or Sidecar Racers . However, none of these films were particularly successful. He later guest starred in series such as Murder is Her Hobby , Dr. Quinn - a passionate doctor , Navy CIS , JAG - on behalf of honor or cold case - no victim is ever forgotten . His (so far) last appearance was in 2010 in the movie The Genesis Code.
