action

The aging, renowned hit man Henry Brogan is about to retire when he gets a job in which he shoots a supposed terrorist in a moving train. This turns out to be a trap, so Brogan is now being prosecuted for killing an eminent scientist. When several attacks on Brogan fail, his clone Junior , who is 25 years his junior and who has the same strengths, but also weaknesses, is assigned to him. In the end, however, both work together to get the mastermind behind the murder orders, Clay Verris, to get. This has created another clone, which in the end can only be switched off with combined effort. Junior can now go to school and thinks about which subject to study.

The cameraman was Dion Beebe , who won an Oscar at the 2006 Academy Awards for The Geisha . The film was shot in 3D with 120 frames per second ( frames per second , fps). a. as HFR 3D (High Frame Rate 3D) with both 120 fps and 60 fps. Paramount sells Gemini Man in a number of versions, including 2D 4K 24 fps as a two-dimensional standard and 3D 2K 60 fps for playback with current cinema projectors, plus 3D 2K 120 fps for Dolby Cinema . Reviews and grossing results

Overall, the film received rather negative reviews. The Rotten Tomatoes review collection lists 305 reviews, of which only 26 percent are positive. The average rating is 4.7 out of 10 points. In the summary, Gemini Man is attested "impressive images" and "some strong representations", which are, however, hopelessly undermined by "a frustratingly below average plot".

Philipp Stadelmaier from the Süddeutsche Zeitung writes that it often feels like you're in a live first person shooter when the camera adopts the perspective of the characters: “This is American war culture in the age of virtuality, like in a video game .” Ang Lee give his characters, digital and non-digital, a soul, remain sensitive to the delicacy of Will Smith's face and his junior version, and so the real beauty of this film comes from the humanity and fragility of the warriors and their mirror images, so Stadelmaier continues.

Frank Schnelle from epd Film writes that the film, which is equivalent to a performance exhibition of what is currently possible in the 3D business, does not achieve depth, and in visual terms the new high-frame rate process with 60 instead of 24 images per second actually looks like a step backwards: “The optics are closer to the video than to the cinema: sharp, but clinical, flicker-free, but sterile.” The script that has been circulating in Hollywood for over 20 years is also content with an extremely simple, now barely contemporary construction that also has little value Inner logic continues, says Schnelle: "In times of clever killer food like John Wick or Killing Eve , that's just not enough."

The film's worldwide revenue from theatrical screenings is $ 172.6 million. In Germany it has so far recorded 606,276 visitors.
