Benjamin Lavernhe (born August 14, 1984 in Poitiers ) is a French film and theater actor . He is a member of the Comédie-Française .

Life

Lavernhe grew up with three siblings in Poitiers, where he attended the Collège Saint-Stanislas and appeared in the school's theatrical productions. He played for a year in the theater atelier of the Maison des Trois-Quartiers and also attended theater courses during his time at the Lycée Victor-Hugo in Poitiers. In addition to the theater, Lavernhe was interested in history and journalism and at the Lycée Camille-Guérin chose the literary and humanities specialization with a specialization in history. He studied information and communication science at the University of Panthéon-Assas and at the same time attended evening courses at the Cours Florent . His teachers included Magali Léris , Jean-Pierre Garnier , Fanny Laudicina and Christian Crozet . This was followed by courses at a theater school and, from 2008, for three years at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique in Paris .

Lavernhe's first theater role was that of Benvolio in the play Romeo and Juliet , staged by Olivier Py in 2011 , which was shown at the Odéon - Théâtre de l'Europe and then went on tour. Under Anne-Laure Liégeois , Lavernhe made his debut at the Comédie-Française in October 2012 , where he took on the role of Lycante in La place royale . After minor roles on television and in commercials, Lavernhe made the feature film Radiostars in 2011 under the direction of Romain Lévy , which was released in 2012. Nicole Garcia's Un beau dimanche was also shot in 2012 . If Lavernhe prefers the comedic subject at the theater, he has "made a name for himself in film and television by portraying a handful of quirky and neurotic characters".

Lavernhe has been a co-partner (Sociétaire) of Comédie-Francaise since 2019. One of his most important roles is the portrayal of Scapin in Scapin's Pranks , directed by Denis Podalydès , for which he was nominated for the Molière Theater Prize in 2018 . For his role in the tragic comedy Life is a Feast by Éric Toledano and Olivier Nakache , which was released in 2017, Lavernhe was nominated for a César for Best Young Actor in 2018 . A second César nomination, this time for Best Supporting Actor, followed in 2020 for My Beloved Stranger by Hugo Gélin .
