Bernadette (also Wo steckst du, Bernadette , original title Where'd You Go, Bernadette ) is a tragic comedy by Richard Linklater , which was released in US cinemas on August 16, 2019 and is due to hit German cinemas on November 21, 2019 . The film is based on the novel Where are you, Bernadette? by Maria Semple .

action

Bernadette Fox lives with her husband Elgie Branch, their daughter Bee, and a golden retriever named Ice Cream. Bernadette was once a much-lauded architect, which is why she wears sunglasses to avoid being recognized.

Elgie works at Microsoft, where she develops "Samantha 2", a self-adhesive patch that can be attached to the forehead to transfer thoughts to the screen.

After her mother disappears, the 15-year-old Bee sets out to find her and learns about her difficult past that she didn't know about.

Filming took place in Pittsburgh, the Seattle Public Library, Vancouver, Canada, and Greenland. Shane F. Kelly acted as cameraman .

The score was composed by Sam Lipman and Graham Reynolds . The soundtrack, which comprises a total of 22 pieces of music, is due to be released as a download on August 9, 2019 by Lakeshore Records.

A first film poster was published in mid-December 2018 and a first trailer a few days later. The film was released in US cinemas on August 16, 2019 and is scheduled to hit German cinemas on November 21, 2019, after being presented in September 2019 at the Leipzig Film Art Fair.

Overall, the film received mixed feedback from the critics.

Lukas Foerster from Filmbulletin writes that Richard Linklater's film is essentially a depression comedy, and “Where'd You Go, Bernadette?” Can be read primarily as: “How did you get this far, Bernadette?” She is a woman , who moves through a life in which she no longer really feels at home, in which she is, sometimes quite literally, offended, with the consistently stunning Cate Blanchett proving herself to be a gifted body comedian.
