Bernd Wilhelm von Lieven

Bernd Wilhelm von Lieven ( Swedish : Berndt Vihelm von Liewen ) (born February 6, 1685 , † February 9, 1771 in Lärkesholm ) was a Swedish lieutenant general .

Life

Lieven came from the baron Estonian tribe Parmel of the German-Baltic noble family of Lieven . His parents were the Swedish Colonel Baron Bernd Otto von Lieven (* 1645, † after 1684) and Lucia Christina von Wartensleben (1656-1724), a sister of the Prussian Field Marshal Count Alexander Hermann von Wartensleben .

He began his career in 1700 as a volunteer with the Governor Regiment in Riga . In 1704 he had the rank of sergeant, in the same year he advanced to ensign , further to second lieutenant (1706), prime lieutenant (1708), captain (1710) and in 1711 was second captain in the Västmanland regiment. In 1714 he was promoted to prime captain, was in the Småland infantry regiment in 1717 and rose to major the following year . His promotion to lieutenant colonel took place in 1720. He was then with the garrison regiment in Halland and from 1724 to 1739 commander in Landskrona . In 1739 he moved to Kronoberg in the same rank , where he was promoted to colonel in 1746 . In 1756 he was finally given the rank of major general and in 1759 that of lieutenant general. From 1765 he was chief of the Savolak Regiment 1765, but dimitted on June 6 of the same year.

During his service, he took part in the battle of Klissow , the sieges of Reval and Stralsund , the battle of Gadebusch and the siege of Tönning . He was expelled from Danish captivity to Brandenburg .

He was buried in the church in Örkelljunga .

family

In 1722 Lieven was married to Countess Anna Magdalena Taube (1697-1770), daughter of the Swedish Imperial Council, Field Marshal and Governor of Stockholm, Count Gustaf Adam Taube . The following seven children were born from the marriage:

The baron line, which was continued by Lieven, died out in the male line in 1917 .
