Bernhard Servatius

Bernhard Servatius (born April 14, 1932 in Magdeburg ) is a German lawyer , executor of Axel Springer's will and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Axel Springer AG from 1985 to 2002.

Life

Bernhard Servatius studied law at the University of Cologne , the University of Freiburg in Freiburg (Switzerland) and at the University of Hamburg . In 1954 he passed his first and second state exams . In 1957 he was working for before mature declared men and their marriages Dr. jur. PhD with magna cum laude .

Servatius made in 1959 as a lawyer independently and was until his retirement in 2018 exit senior partner of the Hamburg law firm lawyers Servatius (from 2020: Part of Schomerus & Partner ), one of the most successful law firms in Hamburg. As a lawyer he only appeared four times as a criminal defense attorney , but first gained nationwide attention in 1965 as a defense attorney in the Mariotti trials . After his death in 1985, he took on a central role at Axel Springer AG and, as a close advisor to Friede Springer, became an entrepreneur in various management positions at the publishing house. After more than 30 years of commitment to the Springer company, Bernhard Servatius resigned as chairman of the supervisory board on June 30, 2002, which he had held since 1985, and left the supervisory board.

Servatius has been professor for media, copyright and contract law at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater since 1985 . Servatius has been the deputy chairman of the supervisory board of the financial services provider AWD Group since 1999 and a member of the supervisory board of equitrust Aktiengesellschaft in Hamburg (until December 2006). He is also a member of the advisory boards of EnBW in Karlsruhe and Hapag-Lloyd AG in Hamburg.

Bernhard Servatius has been a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. since 1950. Rhineland Cologne in the CV , the KDSt.V. Teutonia and later also the KDSt.V. Wiking Hamburg in the CV. From 1971 to 1975 Servatius was a member of the Würzburg Synod , a joint synod of the Catholic dioceses in Germany. In 1976 he founded the Katholische Akademikerarbeit Deutschlands (KAD) and was its president from 1976 to 1980. From 1972 to 1986 he was vice-president of the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK) . Until 1980 he was a consultant in the Science and Culture Commission and the Journalism Commission of the German Bishops' Conference . He was repeatedly delegate of the Vatican State to the United Nations , to the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE) and from 1970 to 1986 chairman of the board of the Raphaels factory for emigrants and onward emigrants. Servatius was a member of the Board of Trustees of the German Foundation for Monument Protection for many years and was its chairman from 2002 to the end of 2010.
