Bernhard Comnenus Anton von Drigalski (born August 18, 1823 in Magdeburg , † December 18, 1890 in Hanover ) was a Prussian general of the cavalry .

Bernhard was the son of the later Prussian Lieutenant General Otto von Drigalski (1788-1860) and his first wife Johanna, née du Titre (1795-1830).

Career

Drigalski attended grammar school and secondary school in Erfurt . On March 28, 1840 he joined the 1st Guard-Ulanen- (Landwehr) Regiment of the Prussian Army as a Ulan . There he advanced to secondary lieutenant in mid-August 1841 and rose to regimental adjutant on February 13, 1849. As Rittmeister , Drigalski was adjutant of the 1st Guard Cavalry Brigade from April 1855 to the end of June 1856 and then squadron chief in his main regiment for two years . From September 17, 1858, he was employed as an adjutant of the General Command of the Guard Corps . Promoted to major on October 18, 1861 , Drigalski was transferred to Stolp as a regular staff officer in the Pomeranian Hussar Regiment (Blüchersche Hussars) No. 5 on June 25, 1864 . In this position he took part in the battles near Gitschin and Königgrätz during the German War . After the previous regiment commander Carl Heinichen had fallen, Drigalski was commissioned on July 5, 1866, initially with the command of the Brandenburg Dragoons Regiment No. 2 . After the peace treaty on September 12, 1866, he was appointed regimental commander and eight days later promoted to lieutenant colonel, and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, fourth class with swords.

In June 1868 Drigalski rose to colonel and led his dragoons during the war against France in the battles of Vionville , Gravelotte , Orléans and Le Mans, as well as in the siege of Paris . In addition, he acted from December 20, 1870 to February 12, 1871 and from May 1 to June 2, 1871 as the leader of the mobile 15th Cavalry Brigade . Awarded with both classes of the Iron Cross , Drigalski was entrusted with the command of the 5th Cavalry Brigade on July 15, 1871 under position à la suite of his regiment .
