The gateway to the Ering district is formed by the famous earth pyramids of Euseigne , steep rock towers with boulders as crowns. A cauldron-like, green high valley opens up behind it, framed by a wreath of peaks and dominated by the mighty Dent Blanche. Valais traditions have been preserved in the mountain villages of Evolène , Les Haudères and Arolla .
In the side valley of Val d'Hérémence there is the large dam wall of the Grande Dixence , the highest dam in the world at 285 meters, built with 6 million cubic meters of concrete. At its base it is as wide as the Great Pyramid , but twice as high and voluminous. It accumulates 400 million cubic meters of water, which is used to generate 1,600 million kWh of electrical energy per year.
