The white wine Biancame is in the Italian regions of Marche ( Ancona Province , Pesaro Urbino and Province of Ascoli Piceno ), Emilia-Romagna ( Forlì-Cesena and Perugia Province ) and Abruzzo ( Teramo ) on a stocked area of approximately 3,050 hectares recommended or approved. Despite the identical synonyms, it is not related to either the Greco Bianco or the Trebbiano variety . Rather, these synonyms indicate a Greek origin.

The grape variety can be found in the Denominazione di origine controllata (DOC for short) wines Bianchello del Metauro , Colli di Rimini Biancame and Colli di Rimini bianco . It results in straw-yellow, delicate and balanced white wines . In general, the endeavors of the winemakers are to replace the Biancame with the Trebbiano variety . Under the same conditions, this variety yields a higher sugar content (see also the article must weight ) and is less susceptible to fungal diseases such as powdery mildew and downy mildew .

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is very hairy with green wool with a slight reddish tinge. The young leaves are hairy with fine flames.
  • The large leaves are usually five-lobed and deeply indented (see also the article leaf shape ). The stalk bay is closed lyren-shaped. The blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth are medium-sized compared to the grape varieties.
  • The conical to cylindrical grape is large, shouldered and densely grilled. The round berries are medium-sized and yellowish in color.

Biancame ripens about 30 days after the Gutedel and is one of the late ripening grape varieties of the middle third ripening period (see the chapter in the article Grape variety). It is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). Biancame has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.
