The Bierbach or Schönbach is a 2.5 km long, southwest and right tributary of the Amdorfbach . It flows within the Westerwald in the Hessian Lahn-Dill district .

geography

course

The source of the Bierbach, which runs in the Lahn-Dill-Bergland Nature Park , is located in the municipality of Herborn, south-southwest of the Schönbach district, on the northern slope of the Obersten Berg ( 560  m above sea  level ), an eastern neighbor of the Rother Berg ( 571.9  m ). A few meters south past the spring at an altitude of around 499  m leads the federal highway 255 (Westerwaldstrasse) , and beyond that, west of the Roth district of Driedorf, is Hof Rehbachtal.

The Bierbach flows in a predominantly north-easterly direction and, after flowing through the Herborn district of Schönbach, joins the Mühlbach coming from the west to the Dill tributary Amdorfbach immediately on the eastern edge of the town at an altitude of about 335  m ; the 7.25 km long Mühlbach is the main stretch of the upper course of the 15.8 km long Amdorfbach.

Natural allocation

The Bierbach flows in the natural spatial main unit group Westerwald (No. 32) and in the main unit Hoher Westerwald (322) predominantly in the sub-unit Westerwald basalt plateau (322.0). Immediately after reaching the subunit Westerwald-Osthang ( Dillwesterwald ; 323.0) belonging to the main unit Oberwesterwald (323 ) is its mouth.

Tributaries and still waters

The tributaries of the Bierbach include an approximately 400 m long stream (on the left), which rises north-northwest of the Bierbach source, and a nearly 900 m long stream (on the right) whose source is south of the Wirberg ( 416.6  m ). The Bierbach feeds two small fish ponds. To the east of its upper reaches far away from the Bierbach in the Dierdorf area north of Roth am Vorderstein ( 487.7 m ) lies  the Steinbruchsee ( ) in the former Winkel quarry and to the north-northwest of it, hidden in the forest in the Herborn area, the Silbersee ( ).

Protected areas

Until shortly before the village of Schönbach, the Bierbach flows in the fauna-flora-habitat area Hoher Westerwald (FFH no. 5314-301; 19.6511  km² ) and in the bird sanctuary Hoher Westerwald (VSG no. 5314-450; 76, 1081 km²); in the upper reaches near the source, it runs along the eastern border. Its mouth lies in the FFH area Dill to Herborn-Burg with tributaries (FFH no. 5215-306; 93.97  ha )
