Schönbach is a district of Herborn in the Lahn-Dill district of Central Hesse .
Geographical location
Schönbach lies to the west of the city center, to the south of the place the federal highway 255 runs .
history
Schönbach was first mentioned in a document in 1239. The first pastor is mentioned as early as 1283 . A fortified church was built on a small hill in the village . It was surrounded by an enclosure wall and a barn wreath . The von Schönbachs, as local nobles, had a small aristocratic residence. It became a Nassau-Dillenburg domain in 1627. In the 19th century, mining was carried out on copper and, more sustainably, on iron ore . In 1906 a rail connection came into the place.
From 1906 to 1984, Schönbach had a direct rail connection in passenger and freight traffic through the Herborn – Montabaur (Westerwaldquerbahn) railway line , which has been closed and largely dismantled.
Territorial reform
In the course of administrative reform in Hesse on 1 January 1977, the previously independent municipality Schönbach were, the city Herborn and other previously independent municipalities by the law on the restructuring of Dill circle counties Giessen and Wetzlar and the city of casting the new city Herborn together . For the district of Schönbach, as for the other incorporated, formerly independent communities, a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor was set up.
