history
Amdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1345. The place appears in the written tradition with the name form "Amberfe" for the first time in the list of goods and foundations of the chapel in Ballersbach, written in the years after 1351. The place name is derived from Ambach . The Reformation was introduced around 1530 . In 1587 Amdorf owned a chapel and a school . A traditional building inscription from 1597 indicates a new building or renovation. During the Thirty Years War the church fell into disrepair and collapsed. In 1722 the church was rebuilt and repaired in 1782. Today's church was built in 1833/1834 and combined with the school under one roof. At the beginning of the 1900s, colored earth was mined and processed in a mineral mill. It still exists today. Many half-timbered houses are still preserved in the village .
From 1906 to 1959, Amdorf had a direct rail connection for both passenger and freight traffic through the Herborn – Montabaur (Westerwaldquerbahn) railway line , but this has been shut down and largely dismantled. The school was closed in 1968 and sold to the parish, which set up a sexton's apartment and a parish room there.
