Hörbach is a district of Herborn in the Lahn-Dill district in central Hesse .
Geographical location
Hörbach is located in the Rehbach valley west of the city center. The federal highway 255 runs north . It meets the federal motorway 45 via the Herborn-West junction .
history
The design of the place name suggests a Frankish settlement. However, the traces of settlement suggest a settlement by the Celts . The now dismantled basalt deposits of the Steinringsberg and old iron ore mines are located in the district, the last of which was closed in 1934.
In 1287 Ober- and Niederhörbach were first mentioned in a document. The parish church was built around 1240. The spire was put on around 1461.
On April 24, 1893, a fire broke out in a barn , which quickly spread to the surrounding barns and houses. 59 houses and 17 barns fell victim to the flames. Only 17 houses and the church remained intact. Even today, the phrase: “Lost like Hörbach '93!” Is still used in the local dialect .
The Steinringsberg rocket filling station planned at this location during World War II was not realized.
In the south of Hörbach there are two mill properties, the "Andreasmühle" and the "Klaasemühle", the first of which has existed since the Middle Ages .

In the course of administrative reform in Hesse on 1 January 1977, the previously independent municipality Hörbach were, the city Herborn and other previously independent municipalities by the law on the restructuring of Dill circle counties Giessen and Wetzlar and the city of casting the new city Herborn together .
