Roth is the easternmost part of the municipality of Driedorf in the Lahn-Dill district in central Hesse . The place in the eastern Westerwald has about 670 inhabitants.
geography
The place is on the eastern edge of the Hohen Westerwald, about 8 km west of Herborn and 45 km northeast of Montabaur . The distance to Siegen is about 43 km, to Wetzlar 37 km. Roth is close to the Hessian border with Rhineland-Palatinate . The distance to the border triangle Hesse - Rhineland-Palatinate - North Rhine-Westphalia is about 8 km. The district of the place has a size of 4.64 km².
The neighboring places are, starting from the north clockwise, the places: Schönbach , Hörbach , Guntersdorf (all town of Herborn), Driedorf, Heiligenborn (both municipality of Driedorf). All places belong to the Lahn-Dill district.
Roth lies in the source area of the Taufenbach , which flows into the Rehbach, a tributary of the Dill , near Guntersdorf . To the west of the village rises the Oberster Berg (560 m above sea level), to the northeast the Vorderstein (487 m above sea level). The highest point of the district is the Rother Berg (572 m above sea level) between the uppermost mountain and the district boundary. To the north of the village, in the former basalt quarry Winkel , an extensive pond has formed.
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1324 as Royde . The place was probably built in the 9th / 10th. Century, when extensive clearing became necessary for new locations in the Westerwald . The spelling Rod has also been handed down for the place .
The long-distance trade route ran from Cologne to Leipzig via Altenkirchen and Herborn near the town .
In the Middle Ages, Roth belonged to the Herborn parish. With the beginning of the Reformation the place was looked after by the parish of Schönbach, in 1630 the official change to this parish followed.
With the construction of the first section of the Westerwaldquerbahn from Herborn to Driedorf, the place was connected to the railway network on May 1, 1906. By 1910, the line was extended via Westerburg to Montabaur. On May 31, 1966, the section of the Westerwaldquerbahn was finally shut down and partially dismantled.
Territorial reform
With the law on the reorganization of the Dill district of the districts of Gießen and Wetzlar and the city of Gießen from May 13, 1974 , the municipality of Roth was incorporated into the municipality of Driedorf on January 1, 1977 as part of the regional reform in Hesse . For Roth, as for the other formerly independent municipalities, a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor was set up.

politics
For elections to the German Bundestag, the place belongs to the constituency “173 Lahn-Dill ”, for elections to the Hessian state parliament it belongs to the constituency “21 Lahn-Dill I ”.
With the regional reform, the municipal administration was transferred to the municipality of Driedorf. The last mayor was Walter Michel. A local advisory board consists of seven members. The town council has told the local council proposal and right to be heard in matters that affect the town. After the local elections in Hesse in 2016 , Danica Michel (URL) is the mayor .
Culture and sights
In the center of Roth is a small chapel in the framework construction . This is based on the chapel mentioned for the first time in 1490. In the years 1753/54 the extension to a small rectangular hall building with a gable roof and canopy roof turrets took place . During the restoration in 1978/79 the original coloring was restored.

The place is on the B 255 from Herborn via Driedorf to Montabaur. The next train station on the Dill route is in Herborn. There are bus connections to Driedorf, Rehe and Herborn. The distance to Frankfurt airport is 101 km, to Cologne / Bonn approx. 102 km.
education
There is a communal kindergarten in Roth. The place belongs to the catchment area of the Westerwaldschule Driedorf, a primary , secondary and secondary school . Secondary schools can be attended in Herborn or Dillenburg .
