Seilhofen is the smallest district of the municipality of Driedorf in the Lahn-Dill district in central Hesse . The place in the eastern Westerwald has about 160 inhabitants.
geography
The place is located on the eastern edge of the High Westerwald about 9 km southwest of Herborn and 43 km northeast of Montabaur . The distance to Siegen is about 43 km and Wetzlar 30 km. Seilhofen is about 5 km from the Hessian border with Rhineland-Palatinate . The distance to the border triangle Hesse - Rhineland-Palatinate - North Rhine-Westphalia is around 9 km. The district of the place has a size of 2.46 km².
The neighboring towns are, starting from the north, clockwise: Driedorf (municipality of Driedorf), Rodenberg , Beilstein (both municipality of Greifenstein ), Münchhausen (municipality of Driedorf). All places belong to the Lahn-Dill district.
Seilhofen is located on the southern slope of the wooded ridge between the town center and the B 277 . This also forms the northern border of the district. The highest elevations of the ridge, from west to east, are the Heckmannsberg (532 m above sea level), the Scheuenberg (504.6 m above sea level) and the Obereberstein (512.7 m above sea level). Only the Schüstenberg lies on the boundary, the other two peaks are in the Driedorf district. The Mainzberg (461 m above sea level) is located in the southern district . The southern border of the Seilhofer district is formed by the Ulmbach , which flows into the Lahn near Biskirchen .
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1398 as Sylloben . The place arose, due to its place name, probably during the early medieval development of the country between the 7th and 9th centuries. The name Seilhofen, in the local dialect Salwe , indicates a stately individual farm ( Saalhof ).
In the Middle Ages, Seilhofen belonged to the Driedorf office and parish. To the north of Seilhofen is the desert of the village of Schänen , to the west of Münchhausen is the desert of Richwinsgesäß . Both deserted areas also belonged to the Driedorf office and parish.
The long-distance trade route ran from Cologne to Leipzig via Altenkirchen and Herborn near the town . In the immediate vicinity of Seilhofen, a Hohe Straße branched off to Frankfurt via Wetzlar. A Carolingian street fortress is suspected near the Pfalzmühle located on the Ulmbach .
Territorial reform
With the law on the restructuring of Dill circle of counties Giessen and Wetzlar and Giessen of 13 May 1974 was in the course of administrative reform in Hesse , the municipality rope Hofen 1 January 1977 in the municipality Driedorf incorporated . For elections to the German Bundestag, the place belongs to the constituency “173 Lahn-Dill ”, for elections to the Hessian state parliament it belongs to the constituency “21 Lahn-Dill I ”.
With the regional reform, the municipal administration was transferred to the municipality of Driedorf. The last mayor was Paul Haas. A local advisory board consists of five members. The town council has told the local council proposal and right to be heard in matters that affect the town. After the local elections in Hesse in 2016 , Michael Weis (UL) is the mayor .
Culture and sights
In the center of Seilhofen there are some half-timbered buildings from the 17th / early 18th century. The historic bakery has also been preserved.

The place is on the B 255 from Herborn via Driedorf to Montabaur. The next train station on the Dill route is in Herborn. There are bus connections to Driedorf, Mengerskirchen and Herborn. The distance to Frankfurt airport is 106 km, to Cologne / Bonn approx. 103 km.

There is no kindergarten in Seilhofen. This is in Driedorf. The place belongs to the catchment area of the Westerwaldschule Driedorf, a primary , secondary and secondary school . Secondary schools can be attended in Herborn or Dillenburg .
