Billy Six

Billy Six (born December 24, 1986 in East Berlin ) is a German journalist and right-wing activist who has been a reporter from crisis areas since 2011 .

Life

Six was born in Berlin in 1986 as the son of two IT specialists. After graduating from high school in 2006, he did, according to Junge Freiheit, an “apprenticeship as an asset and financial advisor ”. He was a world traveler in Africa , Australia , the USA , Canada , Europe and the Middle East and made trips to Angola , Zimbabwe , Congo , Tanzania , Rwanda and Ethiopia . In 2010 he wrote his first article for Junge Freiheit from South Africa .

In his place of residence Neuenhagen near Berlin , Six was a CDU member, chairman of the Junge Union and from 2008 to 2011, most recently as a non-party, member of the local council.

Libya and Syria

From March to September 2011 he reported as a reporter from Libya and from August to December 2012 on the Syrian civil war . During this period he worked exclusively for right-wing media. He was detained in Syria for around 12 weeks in early 2013. The then Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle thanked the Russian government for their support in the release of Six.

Reports in Venezuela and imprisonment

Six traveled overland to Venezuela from Colombia in 2017 without a journalist visa and has been reporting on the country's economic crisis since then . On November 17, 2018, he was arrested while researching in Los Taques near Punto Fijo in a beach hotel and taken to El Helicoide in the capital Caracas, the prison of the Sebin secret police . Six was charged with espionage, rebellion and breach of security zones and contacts with the FARC in a military court . He is said to have taken photos of public military parades in Venezuela on July 5, 2017 and 2018, as well as photos of Maduro at the final rally of the 2018 presidential election, all within a security zone. His subsequent departure was coordinated by his Venezuelan lawyer and the German embassy. Six landed in Berlin on March 18, 2019.

COVID-19 pandemic in Berlin

According to ZDF today, the video is "teeming" with "conspiracy theories, half-truths, scientifically unproven claims and propaganda" against public broadcasting . At the beginning of the video, recordings from the Berlin Virchow Clinic , a branch of the Charité , are shown. Six claims: "The Charite in Mitte sent us to the Virchow Clinic and said that all Berlin corona cases would come together here." However, he did not find an "exceptional state" there. In contrast, according to ZDF today, the recordings do not show the hospital's “Corona investigation center”, but a spokeswoman for the Charité explained that the recordings were made near the rescue center. It is also incorrect that - as Six claims - "all Berlin corona cases come together" in the Virchow Clinic. According to ZDF today , the video turns out to be "one of many conspiracy videos that are in circulation about the coronavirus: with false facts, distorted numbers and questionable sources".

According to research by Bayerischer Rundfunk , the Charité has filed a criminal complaint against Six for the unapproved recordings .
