Binzhou ( Chinese  彬 州市 , Pinyin Bīnzhōu Shì ) is a district-free city in the district-free city of Xianyang in the Chinese province of Shaanxi . Binzhou administers a territory of 1,184 square kilometers and had a total population of 364,000 at the end of 2018.

Binzhou is located about 150 kilometers northwest of the provincial capital Xi'an , halfway to Pingliang in Gansu province . It is located on the southern edge of the Loess plateau north of the Wei River at an average altitude of 1108 meters above sea level. The most important rivers are the Sanshui He , the Shuilian He and the Taiyu He .

The climate of Binzhou is continental with an average annual temperature of 11 ° C. Binzhou receives an annual mean rainfall of 564 millimeters.

population

The population census for 2000 showed a total population of 313,216 people in 80,084 households in what was then the Bin district, of which 165,718 were men and 147,498 women. The same population census found that there were 92,888 people under the age of 14, 206,129 people between the ages of 15 and 64, and 14,199 people over the age of 65 living in Binzhou.

At the end of 2012 there was a registered population of 359,700 inhabitants and a resident population of 325,600 inhabitants in what was then the Bin District .

Administrative structure

Today's Binzhou emerged between 1958 and 1961 when Changwu and Xunyi counties were merged with what was then Bin (邠) county. In 1964 the district Bin (邠) was renamed to Bin (彬). On May 4, 2018, the State Council approved that Bin County would be converted to Binzhou City, which would be directly subordinate to the provincial government, with Xianyang administering Binzhou on behalf of the provincial government.

Economy and Transport

Binzhou's gross domestic product was 21.7 billion yuan in 2018, up 9.3% from the previous year. The growth at that time was slightly above the average for Shaanxi Province and Xianyang City. The gross domestic product was generated to 8.55% in the primary sector , to 72.3% in the secondary sector and to 19.15% in the tertiary sector. The secondary sector grew the most at 10.2%. The average income of Binzhou residents in 2018 was 20,364 yuan, 9.4% more than the previous year. The income of the urban population was 32,502 yuan and that of the rural population was 11,352 yuan.

Binzhou is an important fruit-growing region. Apples, pears, Chinese jujubes , walnuts and persimmons are grown on almost 40,000 hectares . In addition, Binzhou is one of the main coal mining areas in Shaanxi Province.

The Fuzhou-Yinchuan Highway , the 312 National Road and the Xi'an-Pingliang Railway line cross the territory of Binzhou.

Culture

With the Dafosi Grottoes and the Pagoda of the Kaiyuan Temple, Binzhou is home to two monuments of the People's Republic of China . In addition, there are several significant tombs that are on the list of monuments in Shaanxi Province , such as the tombs of Fu Jian , Gong Sunhe or Gong Liu .
