Birkert is the northernmost part of the municipality Brombachtal in the Odenwaldkreis in southern Hesse .
Geographical location
Birkert is located north and south of the Birkerter Bach , which, coming from the nearby watershed of the Gersprenz , flows to the east over the Kinzig to the Mümling . To the east of the village lies the wooded ridge of the Müllert (323 meters high) and to the south is the 339 meter high, also wooded Kirchberg .
history
The existence of the place is documented under the name Birkunhart since 1012. Along the watershed west of the village went one as High Street and Old Street Erbacher called old route . For a long time the rule over Birkert was divided into two parts. A part belonged to the electoral Palatinate Oberamt Otzberg , the so-called "Habitzheimer Seite" and a part to the Zent Kirch-Brombach of the lordship of Breuberg . In the 19th century, Birkert consisted of two different communities and districts. On April 1, 1893, the two suburbs merged to form the municipality of Birkert. Since then, it can still be read from the street names which suburb was assigned to which rulership: Breuberger Strasse is south of the brook and Pfälzer Strasse is to the north .
Territorial reform
On October 1, 1971, on the occasion of the regional reform in Hesse , Birkert voluntarily joined forces with four neighboring communities to form the municipality of Brombachtal. Birkert is one of three Brombachtal districts for which, according to the main statute, a local district with a local advisory board and local mayor was set up.
