action

1870 in Sonora : In a lonely valley near the Arizona border , Mike Summers, a former southern major traumatized by the Civil War, lives with his wife and daughter on his farm and tries to forget the atrocities he experienced at the time. He has renounced violence. But a long-smoldering conflict in the valley escalates when a power-hungry despot in the person of the great rancher Ortega with his gang of murderers terrorizes the area and tries to absorb all of the neighbors' land.

One day, the demolished gunslinger Steve Fallon shows up exhausted at the Summers farm. There he is nursed to health and is given the right to stay as a guest, not least because Franchea recognizes Summers' wife's abilities and wants to persuade him to fight for the just cause. When their daughter Juana falls in love with him, the original decision to stay out of the conflicts and to leave this territory as quickly as possible becomes increasingly difficult.

In the meantime, the rancher Don Hernan, already expropriated and humiliated by Ortega, tries with the last courage of desperation to counter the burners and to organize the resistance of the farmers. But the attempt ends with his death. He is murdered from behind by Ortega's henchmen in cold blood and ruthlessly.

Mike Summers and his farm are now increasingly targeted by Ortega, who now wants to bring his belongings into his possession by force. A fight breaks out on the Summers farm. Fallon and Ortega are wounded. The injured Ortega is put on his ranch by his former gunslinger Danny Pose, who has now smelled blood and gives Ortega the choice of transferring all of his possessions to him. Ortega refuses and is then killed by Pose in a duel. Now the henchman has risen to become ruler and he still has an account with Fallon.

Danny Pose rides with two of his followers to Summers Farm, conscious of the sure victory there to meet no significant resistance, because Fallon's hands were smashed by the wagon wheels of the fleeing Ortega during the fight for the farm. However, the gunslinger feels taken by surprise with the sudden resistance from Summers, who up to this point had not been involved in any fighting. Pose pulls in a duel, but is killed by Summers. The former major saves Fallon's life, the life of his family and his farm, but at the price of breaking his own pacifist vow never to use violence against anyone again. In the end, Summers throws his revolver belt in the dust for good.

Reviews

"Spanish-tinged western, in dialogue full of disgust for violence, nonetheless superficial and trigger-happy."

"A Spanish-English production from the early days of the paella western, whose director and author are among the pillars of the London horror film production Hammer ."
