action
Sonja and Jens are a young couple. The 20-year-olds in love get married quickly and enjoy their young happiness. Everything is going according to plan. Sonja becomes pregnant and with the child her marriage begins to run into trouble. Jens earns enough money as a construction worker to make ends meet with the small family, but does not want Sonja to put the child in the crèche and earn money . He sees the young woman as a loyal mother who cares exclusively for the child, as he himself experienced too little affection as a child because of his working mother. Sonja refuses these ideas and secretly begins to educate herself. When Jens notices this, he becomes violent towards Sonja. The marriage develops into a horror scenario for Sonja and Jens, who also starts to drink . When Jens accidentally drinks from a mineral water bottle that contains cleaning agents, Sonja, who knows about the contents of the bottle, does not prevent him. However, her conscience weighs heavily on her and she wants to face the police, which her friend Tilli prevents. At Tilli's wedding, she finally can't stand the pressure any longer and confesses to the guests present that she knowingly allowed Jens to be poisoned. The guests react with horror, but Jens stands protectively in front of his wife. A second chance seems possible.

Reviews
- Lexicon of international film : A sometimes garishly staged, dramaturgically but skillfully structured marriage conflict film by DEFA, which takes the official phrases of general happiness in socialist society ad absurdum.
- Der Tagesspiegel , Berlin, 1979: Here a contemporary GDR issue is dealt with uncompromisingly, conflicts are fully played out and polemical features are unmistakable.
