The diocese of Bettiah ( lat. : Dioecesis Bettiahensis ) is in India situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Bettiah .

history

The diocese of Bettiah was founded in 1892 by Pope Leo XIII. from the cession of territory by the diocese of Allahabad as Apostolic Prefecture of Bettiah . The Apostolic Prefecture of Bettiah was dissolved in 1918 and the territory was ceded to the Apostolic Vicariate of Patna .

On June 27, 1998, the former Apostolic Vicariate of Bettiah was reestablished from territory of the Muzaffarpur diocese as the diocese of Bettiah . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Patna as a suffragan .

The diocese of Bettiah includes the districts of Gopalganj , Pashchim Champaran , Purba Champaran , Saran and Siwan in the state of Bihar .
