Block Party (alternatively: Dave Chappelle's Block Party ) is a music - documentation from the year 2005. It was directed by French Oscar winner Michel Gondry . The script was written by comedian Dave Chappelle , who also appears as the lead actor.

The US comedian Dave Chappelle is holding a concert on September 18, 2004, a so-called Block Party, at the intersection of Quincy Street and Downing Street in Bed Stuy , Brooklyn .

In addition to the concert part, the film also documents part of the organizational processes, such as the choice of the street, the use of the daycare center as a backstage area or the provision of rental furniture by the Salvation Army. Before the concert starts, Chapelle personally invites people from his small-town home community of Yellow Springs , Ohio, and New York City . The people and their own story become part of the film. In Ohio he also comes across the Marching Band with their Invincible Marching Marauders from Central State University (CSU) , which he invites. Buses have to be organized at short notice. In New York, Chappelle drives through the streets with a megaphone and the party is posted on the Internet.

The block party begins with Kanye West moving in at the head of the Invincible Marching Marauders , then hip-hop artists such as Mos Def , Common , Erykah Badu , Talib Kweli and Jill Scott perform . This is held together by a main band consisting of professional musicians, whose direction Ahmir "? Uestlove" Thompson takes over. The end of the concert is the one-time reunion of the Fugees .
