Bloomfield (Virginia)

Bloomfield is a civil parish in Loudoun County in the US state of Virginia . It is located at the intersection of Airmont Road (Virginia State Route 719) and Bloomfield Road (Virginia State Route 626).

The county seat of Leesburg is 30 km away and the capital Washington, DC is 100 km east of Bloomfield.

history

Bloomfield was founded by the Virginia General Assembly on January 13, 1816 . The village was named after the wildflower fields along the Blue Ridge Mountains that run near Bloomfields. A year later, Bloomfield received a post office. The village with 59 inhabitants flourished until 1830 . During the Civil War , Colonel John Mosby and his soldiers visited Bloomfield to split $ 173,000 stolen from a Union gold train in West Virginia .
