Robert "Bob" Carmichael (born July 4, 1940 in Melbourne , † November 18, 2003 ibid) was an Australian tennis player .

Career

Carmichael celebrated his greatest successes in doubles, winning twelve titles, most of them with compatriot Ray Ruffels . He advanced to position 23 in the double world rankings and reached at least the semi-finals of all four Grand Slam tournaments . His greatest success at this level was reaching the finals at the Australian Open in 1975 .

In singles, he also won a tournament with the Heinecken Open in Auckland , but did not get beyond world number 55.

After completing his playing career in 1979, he worked as a coach for Tennis Australia . He died at the age of 63 in his hometown of Melbourne.
