Friedrich Heinrich Bogislav Count Tauentzien von Wittenberg (born July 10, 1789 in Berlin , † November 6, 1854 in Trier ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 16th Cavalry Brigade and a knight of the Order of St. John .

Life

Friedrich was the son of General Bogislav Tauentzien von Wittenberg (1760-1824) and his second wife Luise Friederike Juliane, born von Arnstedt (* January 4, 1760, † March 25, 1840). His sister from his father's first marriage, Henriette Elisabeth Johanna Ulrike (1785–1859), was married to Lieutenant General Gustav Leopold Graf von Hake (1776–1838).

Military career

From 1801 Tauentzien attended the Ecole militaire in Berlin and on October 19, 1802 was accepted as a standard junker in the regiment of the Gardes du Corps with the permission to continue studying at the Ecole. On December 10, 1804, he began his service in the regiment and was promoted to second lieutenant until August 1806 . During the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the battle of Auerstedt , the cannonade of Gollau and the skirmishes near Königsberg and Bartenstein .

After the Peace of Tilsit , his patent as second lieutenant was postponed to May 15, 1806 and Tauentzien was promoted to prime lieutenant on September 21, 1809 . By mid-June 1813 he was promoted to Rittmeister . During the Wars of Liberation , Tauentzien fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Bautzen , Leipzig and in the battle near Haynau . During that time he was awarded the Swedish Order of the Sword on January 19, 1814 , promoted to major on April 21, 1814 with a patent from July 26, 1814 , and on June 3, 1814, together with his father, he was elevated to the rank of Count of Prussia .

After the war, on January 13, 1816, Tauentzien received the Iron Cross, 2nd class, from Colonel Graf von Schwerin, and on December 10, 1816, the Order of Saint Anne, 2nd class in diamonds. On July 13, 1817 he came to the 4th Cuirassier Regiment as a regular staff officer , was aggregated into the Regiment on December 8, 1818 and the 7th Cuirassier Regiment on March 30, 1823 . On June 18, 1825, Tauentzien was promoted to lieutenant colonel with a patent from June 28, 1825 and was awarded the service cross . On March 5, 1827, he was commissioned to lead the 8th Cuirassier Regiment . At the same time he was promoted to colonel , he was appointed regimental commander on March 30, 1830. This was followed on March 30, 1837, while being promoted to major general, he was appointed commander of the 16th Cavalry Brigade in Trier. On September 11, 1838 he received the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with a bow, before Tauentzien was put up for disposal on March 24, 1841 with the statutory pension . On February 17, 1850 he received his retirement with his previous pension.

He died unmarried on November 6, 1854 in Trier. With his death, the count's branch of the family of Tauentzien died out again.
