Bom Sucesso is a municipality ( freguesia ) in Portugal and belongs to the district ( concelho ) of Figueira da Foz .
history
The first mention of the current location can be found in documents from the 9th century. After independence and the establishment of the Kingdom of Portugal , its first king, D. Afonso Henriques , gave the area to the Santa Cruz Monastery in Coimbra . Plagued by difficult living conditions, the area experienced a first wave of emigration to the newly discovered Brazil from the 16th century . It remained a sparsely populated area until the 18th century, when its population gradually increased. Belonging to the community of Quiaios , the desire to form its own community grew increasingly greater. In 1936 Bom Successo became its own parish, and in 1984 its own administrative area (Freguesia).
Since the 1950s, the community experienced another wave of emigration, this time mainly to France . The returning guest workers and their investments revitalized the area, but the community remained structurally weak.
Culture, sports and sights
The high altitude with its wide views and good air conditions are features of the area. With the Lagoa da Vela , the Lagoa do Salgueiro , and the Lagoa da Fonte are three lakes in the municipality, which are surrounded by forest. Hiking trails run through the area.
There is a well-preserved Roman bridge in Camarção .
The Igreja Paroquial de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios parish church , built in 1771, was essentially the result of the expansion of a previous chapel. It was renovated in 1885 and 1981 and offers, in addition to the simple altarpieces , a beautiful wooden portrait of the church patroness.
Every year on August 15th the parish festival takes place in honor of the patroness of the church and parish.
The Associação de Moradores do Bom Successo is a local cultural association that cultivates local customs and costumes , including in a folk dance group , the rancho folclórico . Other clubs are the Vespa Club Bom Sucesso , the pigeon club Grupo Columbófilo do Bom Sucesso , the hunters' association Clube de Caçadores do Bom Sucesso , the sports club União Desportiva da Gândara , and the sports and leisure club Clube Z desporto e Aventura do Bom Sucesso , etc. a.
Two of the formerly numerous windmills have been acquired and restored by the municipality, one in Morros and one in Largo da Feira.

economy
Livestock and some agriculture are practiced here, but the conditions are not favorable due to the dry altitude. Local tourism has gained in importance, as the villages and their inhabitants have retained some traditions due to their relative isolation, and the landscape with its lakes and forests offers attractive destinations. There are also some small local businesses in the trade and gastronomy, also on the Lagoa da Vela .
