Bradley Joseph Davis (born November 8, 1981 in Saint Charles , Missouri ) is an American football player . He plays as a left winger at Houston Dynamo in Major League Soccer .

Player career

Youth and college

Davis played in his youth for the school team at Chaminade College Preparatory School in Creve Coeur . He went to Saint Louis University in St. Louis in 2000 . There he played for two years for the team called Billikens in the university league.

professional

In the 2002 MLS SuperDraft , Davis was selected by the New York MetroStars . In his first season for the New Jersey team, he scored four goals in 24 games. He was thus in the shortlist for the title of best young player in the league, but ultimately the award went to Kyle Martino . At the end of the season it was passed on to Dallas Burn . The MetroStars received another pick for this in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft.

In Dallas he developed into a regular player. Under coach Colin Clarke he was initially used in attacking midfield, later he moved back to the left. In total, he scored eight goals for the team in 55 games in the MLS.

He played his last league game for the Texans against the San José Earthquakes , to which he was passed on for the 2005 game year. In California he had a mixed season with 18 appearances and only played through the first half of the season. The team was the best in points in the preliminary round and so Davis played for the first time in his career in the championship play-offs, but retired with the team early.

The following year, San José could no longer compete in the first division because the necessary new stadium had not been built. Then a new club was founded in Houston and the entire squad switched to Houston Dynamo . In the first year the team successfully qualified for the play-offs. Davis contributed a penalty goal to narrow progress in the quarterfinals. They reached the final, which was decided by penalty shootouts. Davis' penalty was saved this time, but the team managed to secure the 2006 title . The following year he had to pause again for most of the second half of the season, but was available again for the play-offs. Again he scored a goal in the quarterfinals, this time from a free kick. The team reached the final and defended the championship title. In the North American SuperLiga , Brad Davis was in the final. Then he also played in the CONCACAF Champions League and reached the quarterfinals, where he and the team lost to the eventual winner CF Atlante from Mexico.

In the following two years Davis retired with Houston early in the play-offs and the following year they even missed the qualification. But in 2011 the team was again in the championship final, which was lost to Los Angeles Galaxy . Brad Davis was not on the field due to injury. The following year the finals were reissued, but with his participation one lost again. In the CONCACAF Champions League , the Dynamos reached the quarter-finals again. A late goal from Davis secured the 1-0 first leg win against Santos Laguna , but the second leg was clearly lost 3-0.

Brad Davis is a senior executive for Houston Dynamo and is armband. His regular position is on the left offensive side and his specialty is set pieces.

National team

Davis played for several United States youth selection teams. He took part in the 2001 Junior World Cup in Argentina with the US U-20 team .

In the senior category, he wore the national jersey for the first time at the 2005 Gold Cup . In the group game against Cuba he made his debut for the US national team on July 7, and in the final he scored the first goal for his country on penalties, which ended 3-1 for the USA.

After that, however, there were only sporadic invitations to friendly games in 2008 and 2010, before the left winger was increasingly brought back to the national team in early 2013. He was used four times this year by national coach Jürgen Klinsmann in qualifying for the 2014 World Cup . Then he played four more times in the preparation games and went to the tournament in Brazil as a member of the 23-man squad of the USA. Davis made his first World Cup appearance in the third game of the group stage against Germany .
