Braunsdorf founded in 1210 Hermannus de Worganewiz, first mentioned in 1206, on behalf of Meißner Bishop Bruno II of Porstendorf , after whom the place is named as Bruno's village . In 1411 Braunsdorf was first mentioned as Brunstorff in a document from Landgrave Friedrich von Thuringia . In 1461 Braunsdorf was known under Brawendorff , from 1466 as Brunsdorff . Described in 1533 as Breunsdorff , 1538 as Brainsdorff and from 1551 as Braunsdorff , the place has been called Braunsdorf bei Tharandt since 1875 .

From 1620 to 1964 dolomitic limestone was mined southwest of Braunsdorf . During the operation there was a break in the day with fatalities in 1869 . Another major incident occurred in 1996, 32 years after the lime works was shut down. The collapse funnel reached a diameter of up to 40 meters.

Incorporations

Braunsdorf, the previously independent municipalities of Oberhermsdorf and Kleinopitz were incorporated on January 1, 1973, and a new Braunsdorf municipality was founded. On March 1, 1994 Braunsdorf was incorporated into Kesselsdorf . Kesselsdorf, in turn, was united with Wilsdruff on August 1, 2001, with Braunsdorf, Oberhermsdorf and Kleinopitz being detached from Kesselsdorf and added to Wilsdruff as three separate districts.

Development of the population

Since Braunsdorf was united with the municipalities of Oberhermsdorf and Kleinopitz from 1973 to 1994, the population figures are correspondingly higher during this period.
