Grund was first mentioned in 1508. At that time, the smelter Hans Rörer from Dippoldiswalde dug an inheritance mine on the Ziegenrück near Ohorn to mine silver ore . Subsequently, a small settlement of miners with part-time farming gradually arose . In 1575 the place was mentioned as the village of Ziegenruck or as a village in Zugenruckergrund (1591). This place formed one of the northernmost points of the Freiberg district . The main digging was done on zinc blende , which here contained up to two percent silver. Local mining reached its peak at the beginning of the 18th century. Under Elector-King Augustus the Strong , the place was also called Silbergrund . In times when mining went down, the terms Bettelgrund or Wüst Arabien were common. Since the beginning of tourism at the end of the 19th century, Grund has also been affectionately known as Klein Tirol .
