The Brauntal nature reserve is located in the Südwestpfalz district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The approximately 71 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1984 , extends southwest of the local community of Rumbach . The state road 478 runs not far north of the area, the state border with France runs south and the Königsbruch nature reserve extends not far to the west .

The purpose of protection is to maintain and safeguard the near-natural to natural animal and plant communities of the Brauntalweiher and its surrounding areas, in particular the rare and endangered plant communities of the siltation zone and the rare and endangered animal populations of the entire area, as well as preservation of the diversity of the surrounding areas, especially scientific ones Reasons and because of the rarity and endangerment of communities and habitats as well as the very special nature of the dystrophic wetland .
