Brion James (born July 17, 1955 in Brooklyn , New York ) is an American musician , songwriter and record producer . He gained fame as the guitarist of the rock formation Dan Reed Network , of which he is a founding member.

Brion James attended the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle from 1976 to 1979 . There he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory and Composition. He joined the band Dan Reed Network in 1984, with whom he released three studio albums and one live album in addition to an EP . From 1991 he also worked as a producer and songwriter for other artists. Until 2001 he worked with Babyface , Shanice and Anastacia ( Secrets ), among others . In 2001 he was a member of the touring bands of Babyface and Edgar Winter . During winter he was withMelvin Brannon , the bass player for the Dan Reed Network, hired. In 2002 he joined the band "West End Players" on the island of Roatán in Honduras , for whom he took over the vocals and played the guitar.

In 2004 Neil Zaza released an instrumental recording of the Dan Reed Network song Forgot to Make Her Mine on his album Melodika , which was recorded around 2001 with Blake Sakamoto , Daniel Pred , Brion James and Melvin Brannon.

From 2008 James taught as a music teacher at the Sandy Bay Alternative School on Roatan. He continued to work with other artists, for example as a guitarist for Luther Vandross on his album Dance With My Father (2003), as a composer for Siouxsie Sioux's solo album MantaRey (2007) and Nelly's album 5.0 (2010).

Since 2007 he has been a member of the Oregon Music Hall of Fame through the inclusion of "Dan Reed Network". In December 2012 he appeared again with the band for the first time, further concerts followed in 2013 during a European tour. For 2014 the band is planning to perform at various European festivals.

James has been living in Zurich since November 2013 , where he and his new group, the Brion James Band, want to record their debut album Back From the Storm .
