Brissac-Quincé is a commune Déléguée in the French commune of Brissac Loire Aubance with 3,095 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the region of Pays de la Loire in the department of Maine-et-Loire .

geography

The municipality of 9.76 square kilometers was one of the smaller municipalities in France. It is 33 to 78 meters above sea level and last had 3,059 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2013). The place on the D 748 road is characterized by the Château Brissac , which attracts many tourists. The next larger towns are Angers (in the north) 15 kilometers away and Saumur in 37 kilometers .

history

The place can look back on a thousand years of history. In the 9th century, it was the capital of a territory known in Latin as "Pagus bragascencis". In its history the place has different names, so in the year 1060 Brachesac , 1323 Brechessac , 1406 Broichessac , in the 15th century Brissessac and finally in the 16th century Brissac .

In 1964 the municipalities of Brissac and Quincé merged to form the municipality of Brissac-Quincé. This municipality became on December 15, 2016 with nine other municipalities, namely Les Alleuds , Charcé-Saint-Ellier-sur-Aubance , Chemellier , Coutures , Luigné , Saint-Rémy-la-Varenne , Saint-Saturnin-sur-Loire , Saulgé -l'Hôpital and Vauchrétien merged to form the new municipality of Brissac Loire Aubance. The municipality of Brissac-Quincé was part of the Arrondissement of Angers and the canton of Les Ponts-de-Cé (until 2015: canton Thouarcé ).
