Bruno Fernando , real name Bruno Afonso David Fernandes (born August 15, 1998 in Luanda ), is an Angolan basketball player .

career

Bruno Fernando, who comes from Angola , has seven siblings. He played soccer as a teenager before switching to basketball. His performances wearing the Angolan team during the 2014 U17 World Cup caught the interest of coaches from the United States . Bruno Fernando moved to the Montverde Academy in Florida in 2015 , and in the 2016/17 season he played in the same state for the IMG Academy team .

Bruno Fernando had originally decided to move to Southern Methodist University , but ultimately came to the University of Maryland , whose team he strengthened from the 2016/17 game year. He was considered a contender for a top placement in the NBA draft selection process in 2019, but was ultimately only called in the second selection round (34th place) by the Philadelphia 76ers . Philadelphia then gave the Angolans to the Atlanta Hawks . At the beginning of July 2019, he was awarded a contract by Atlanta.

National team

Bruno Fernando took part with the Angolan national team in 2016 in the elimination tournament for the Olympic Games . With his country's junior teams, he played at the U19 World Cup in 2017 and at the U17 World Cup in 2014.
