Bembry's career began with the Rocky River High School basketball team in Charlotte , North Carolina . He then played for the team at St. Patrick High School in Elizabeth , New Jersey , where he hung up an average of 21.8 points and 9 rebounds , which earned him a nomination to the New Jersey All-State First Team and an appointment to the 2013 Union County Player of the Year.
After high school , Bembry played for the Saint Joseph's University of Philadelphia basketball team , the Saint Joseph's Hawks. Here he won the Atlantic-10 Rookie of the Year Award as a freshman , was elected to the A-10's All-Conference First Team and reached the NCAA Tournament with the Hawks by winning the Conference Championship for the first time since 2008 . As a sophomore , Bembry put on an average of 17.7 points, 7.7 rebounds , 3.6 assists and 1.9 steals and was re-elected to the A-10's All-Conference First Team. As a junior , Bembry was re-elected to the A-10's All-Conference First Team and won the Atlantic-10 Player of the Year Award. Bembry put on 30 points in the title game for the Conference Championship against VCU and thus led the Hawks to the second Conference Championship and their second participation in the NCAA Tournament within three years.
On June 23, 2016, Bembry was selected in the NBA draft in 21st place by the Atlanta Hawks , with whom he signed his first NBA contract on July 15, 2016 . Bembry made his NBA debut in the Atlanta Hawks' season opening game on October 27, 2016, a 114-99 win over the Washington Wizards , in which he put up two points and a rebound in two minutes of play. In February 2017, Bembry scored 10 points twice, which was his highest point as a rookie . On October 24, 2018, he recorded a career high of 16 rebounds in a 111: 104 win over the Dallas Mavericks and on January 4, 2019 a season high of 19 points in a 144: 112 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks . After several strong appearances early in the 2019-20 season , including a performance of 18 points, 10 rebounds and a career high of 8 assists against the Miami Heat on October 31, 2019, Bembry was named Kia 6th Man of the Month by the Atlanta Hawks October . On November 22, 2019, Bembry scored a career high of 22 points in a 103: 128 loss to the Detroit Pistons .
