Bryan Joseph Bayda CSsR (born August 21, 1961 in Saskatoon , Canada ) is the incumbent Bishop of Saskatoon for the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Canada.

Life

Bryan Joseph Bayda was born the third of six children to Joseph and Florence Bayda. The boy loved music and sports, and during the summer he spent his holidays on a farm in Aberdeen . Bayda attended elementary school in Saskatoon and studied from 1975 to 1979 at St. Vladimir College in Roblin . From 1979 to 1982 he was a seminarian and a novice at the Redemptorists in Toronto and studied at the Saint Michael College philosophy , with the bachelor's degree . At the end of his novice period he stayed in Oconomowoc ( Wisconsin , USA ) and took his first religious vows on July 31, 1983 . He began postgraduate studies at Saint Michael's College in 1983 and made his great vows on September 13, 1986. In 1987 he graduated with a Master of Theology . On May 30, 1987, Bayda was ordained a religious priest of the Redemptorists by Bishop Basil Filevich (Saskatoon) .

Religious priest

Bayda was a chaplain at St. Vladimir College, Roblin from 1987 to 1990, while studying education at the University of Manitoba . He finished his studies with a bachelor's degree. In 1990 he was appointed to Vladimir College and was director of that college from 1993 to 1994. In 1994 he took over the leadership of the Redemptorist Order Institution in Toronto as Abbot and Administrative Director. In 1997 he became a co-pastor in the Saint Peter and Paul Congregation in Saskatoon.

On May 2, 2008, Father Bayda was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Bishop of Saskatoon and 27 June 2008 Archbishop Lawrence Huculak Daniel OSBM ( Winnipeg ) and the co-consecrators Bishop Michael Wiwchar CSsR (his predecessor) and Bishop Kenneth Nowakowski ( New Westminster ) consecrated bishop. His motto is: "You will be my witnesses." ( Acts 1,8 EU )

Pope Francis also appointed him Apostolic Administrator of the vacant Toronto Eparchy on November 9, 2019 .
