Jürgen Budday (* 1948 ) is a German conductor and church music director . He was the conductor of the Maulbronn Kantorei until 2019 and of the Maulbronn Chamber Choir until 2016 , as well as the artistic director of the Maulbronn Monastery Concerts until October 16, 2013. His focus is on the genre of historical and contemporary vocal music as well as the performance of oratorios with historical instruments. From February 1979 to July 2012 he was also director of studies at the Evangelical Seminary in Maulbronn .

biography

Jürgen Budday studied school music , church music and musicology at the Stuttgart University of Music and taught from 1979 to 2012 as a high school music teacher at the Evangelical Seminary in Maulbronn.

For his music pedagogical and artistic work he received a. a. the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon (1998) and the Bruno Frey Prize of the Landesakademie Ochsenhausen . In recognition of his services as a “brilliant musical ambassador of Baden-Württemberg”, he was awarded the honorary title of Professor in 2011 by the Prime Minister of the State of Baden-Württemberg . In 2013 Jürgen Budday received the Georg Friedrich Handel Ring from the Association of German Concert Choirs (VDKC) .

Since 2002 Jürgen Budday has also chaired the advisory board for choirs of the German Music Council . and in this function is the overall director of the German Choir Competition

In June 2014 Jürgen Budday took over the artistic direction of the International Chamber Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf , succeeding Dolf Rabus in this role . In June 2016, Jürgen Budday conducted the last concert with the Maulbronn Chamber Choir , which he founded, and thus relinquished artistic direction after almost 33 years.

Under his direction, the K&K Verlagsanstalt's Edition Kloster Maulbronn produced a number of recordings of concerts on CD, including a. a. the Handel oratorios Jephtha , Samson , Judas Maccabäus and Saul with Emma Kirkby , Michael Chance , Nancy Argenta and Stephen Varcoe .
