Buhrmeister (noble family)
Buhrmeister is the name of a German-Baltic - Swedish noble family . According to documented sources, Konrad Buhrmeister or Bauermeister is considered to be the progenitor of the von Buhrmeister family. In 1554 he was counselor and servant of Duke Heinrich II. Of Braunschweig and then Chancellor (1558–1570) of Duke Magnus of Denmark , the designated King of Livonia (1570–1577). Konrad acquired several properties and estates in Livonia and on the Livonian island of Ösel and received others for his services. During the Livonian WarKonrad von Buhrmeister died in a Russian war camp in 1570 .
He was followed by his son Magnus Konrad (* 1593) and then his sons Christopher and Jürgen. On November 8, 1650, the Swedish sergeant general Christopher and his brother Jürgen received a Swedish naturalization diploma from Queen Christina (1626–1689). At the same time, a letter of coat of arms was issued, with which the previous coat of arms was renewed. Since then, the family has been spelling "Buhrmeister", which in all probability is derived from the name "Baurmeister" or "Bauermeister". The family belonged to the Ösel knighthood and was enrolled in the Livonian knighthood on December 12, 1779 (reg. No. 239).
