The Laudenbach castle ruins are the ruins of a hilltop castle at 210  m above sea level. NN above the church of the district Laudenbach of the city of Karlstadt in the Lower Franconian district of Main-Spessart in Bavaria .

history

The castle was built around 1150 by the Lords of Hohenlohe , sold in 1291 by Elisabeth von Hohenlohe to Gottfried von Schlüsselberg , then changed hands several times, including a. the Lords of Henneberg and the Counts of Wertheim , and was given several fiefdoms . In 1466 the property came to Eytil Voit von Rieneck , until it was abandoned in 1525, destroyed, burned out and never rebuilt in the German Peasants' War. As a “reparation”, the farmers had to build the New Castle on the Main side after 1525 .

From 1978 to 1983 the Upper Tower, popularly known as the “Dicker Tower”, was renovated by the city of Karlstadt, which owns the ruin today.

description

The castle, which was protected from steep slopes to the northeast and southwest, with presumably northeastern access, was separated from the mountain by a ditch . On the east side behind the church there is a donjon-like square 18-meter-high and 7-meter-wide tower with a humpback block facing , which is connected to the partially existing circular wall , where a cellar vault is visible through a hole.

Another massive, square, 10-meter-high, 7.6-meter-wide tower with 2-meter-thick ashlar walls and overlapping humpbacks at the corners is located on a higher terrace to the west .

In front of the main castle , for protection on the mountain side, are the remains of a third tower with a round arched entrance. A kennel from the 14th century and two semicircular towers embedded in the kennel wall can still be seen.

An allotment garden is laid out in the courtyard of the privately owned castle complex .
