history

The first written mention as Burgkstedell comes from the year 1587. The fact that the name of the hamlet can be traced back to an old fortified defense system is disputed among local researchers. According to legend, a Quedlinburg , which cannot be localized in any more detail, was located here , which could have served to protect the salt road over the Preßnitzer Pass . Albert Schiffner wrote about this in 1828: “ The village that stood here is said to have been ruined by the Hussites in 1429. It is by no means inconceivable to us that a castle could have stood here, since the place is actually like a pass and the street is ancient. “According to another opinion, Elterlein is said to have been called Quedlinburg in the Middle Ages. B. Petrus Albinus wrote in his mountain chronicle in 1590.

At the end of the 16th century, there is evidence of a paper mill and a farm . Ownership of the paper mill changed mostly at short intervals. In the 19th century, from 1836, the paper mill belonged to Christian Gottlob Geipel, who made handmade paper with watermarks. He sold it in 1870 to Christian Ehregott Lorenz, owner of the Burgstädtel estate. It was shut down in 1918, and the buildings burned down in 1937. At the site of the former paper mill, the Bethlehemstift retirement home is now located . In 1875 a mill and an inn are also mentioned.

Burgstädtel is parish after Elterlein. Around 20 people live in the small settlement, which the city of Elterlein also regards as part of the city and not as a separate district.
