Bushat [ ˌbuˈʃaˑt ] ( Albanian also Bushati [ ˌbuˈʃaˑˌti ] ) is a village in Shkodra Qark in northern Albania .
geography
Bushat is located in the Zadrima region , a fertile plain between the Adriatic Sea , Skadar Lake and Mirdita , through which the Old Drin flows. Bushat forms the center of the Zadrima. Just east of the village, the Alte Drin makes its way between two hills. The village is located at the eastern foot of the Zefjana ( 249 m above sea level ), the higher of these two hills.
Bushat belongs to the municipality ( bashkia ) Vau-Deja . The closest cities are Shkodra in the north and Lezha in the south. Until 2015, Bushat was an independent municipality ( komuna ).
population
The Komuna Bushat has a population of 14,149 (2011 census). An average of four people live in a household. 20.37 percent of the population are younger than 14 years old, 65.48 percent between 15 and 64 years old and 14.15 percent older than 65 years. The proportion of women in the population is slightly higher than that of men. In 2008, however, the authorities of Shkodra Qark in Komuna Bushat counted 22,762 inhabitants in 5,827 households.
history
The historical Bushati family came from Bushat . Between 1757 and 1831 some members of this family ruled the semi-autonomous paschalik of Shkodra , which at its height comprised large parts of Albania, Kosovo , the west of North Macedonia and the south of Montenegro .
Community structure
The Komuna Bushat comprised the 14 villages Ashta , Barbullush , Bushat, Fshat i Ri , Hotnej , Konaj , Kosmaç , Kukël , Mali i Jushit , Melgusha , Plezha , Rranxa , Shkjeza and Stajka . Neighboring communities were Bërdica and Gur i Zi in the north, Vau-Deja and Hajmel in the east, Dajç (Lezha) and Balldren i Ri in the south and Velipoja and Dajç (Shkodra) in the west . The parish area was 92.7 square kilometers.
economy
Most of the workforce is employed in the primary sector. In 2008 of 5,632 companies, 5,450 were active in agriculture and animal husbandry , the majority of which were private individuals. A small part is also employed in retail .
traffic
Bushat is about halfway from Lezha to Shkodra and was previously known for its inns for traders and caravans, who often stopped here. The new SH1 expressway , which connects Shkodra with the capital Tirana , bypasses the village to the east. The SH29 , the old main road, crosses the village and connects the villages in the west of the Zadrima. The SH5 begins a little north of Bushat and runs from Shkodra via Puka and Kukës to Kosovo and was previously the most important connection between Albania and Kosovo.
Infrastructure
Bushat has a hospital, nine health centers, ten kindergartens, eight elementary schools and two middle schools.
