Carl Hans Bernewitz
Carlhans Bernewitz even Karlhans Bernewitz , Latvian Karlis Bernevics , (born May 17, jul. / 29. May 1858 greg. In Blieden, Kurland , today Blīdene ; † 19 December 1934 in Kassel ) was a German- Baltic sculptor and Craftsman , his work can be assigned to historicism .
Life
Carl Bernewitz received his first training in Riga from the sculptor August Volz , a student of Albert Wolff . In 1880 he entered the Berlin Art Academy . As a student, assistant and finally from 1883 to 1886 as a master student, he was closely associated with Reinhold Begas . After a stay in Rome in 1887 he was called in by Begas to carry out his large-scale commissions such as the Neptune Fountain on Berlin's Schlossplatz or the Kaiser Wilhelm National Monument in front of the Eosander portal of the Berlin Palace . In addition to his work at Begas, which lasted until 1897, mainly bronzes were created in his own studio . Carl Bernewitz also worked as a craftsman and designed vases for the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin . In 1903 he was appointed as a lecturer at the Kunsthochschule Kassel and received the title of professor there in 1908. He was awarded the Prussian Red Eagle Order IV class.
