Carlo Luigi Morichini (born November 21, 1805 in Rome , † April 26, 1879 there ) was Archbishop of Bologna and Cardinal .

Life

In the Complesso Monumentale di San Michele a Ripa Grande , three rows of individual cells, one on top of the other, bordered a central work room. The altar stood on one side of the room and the whipping ram on the other.

Carlo Luigi Morichini was the first-born son of Domenico Morichini (1773-1836), chief physician of the Hospital of the Holy Spirit in Sassia , and his wife Cecilia Calidi. He completed a law degree at La Sapienza University in Rome , where he received his doctorate on July 22, 1826 and obtained the title of Doctor iuris utriusque . He was ordained a priest on December 20, 1828 and then carried out various administrative and charitable activities in Rome. In 1834 he was vicar of Cardinal Nicola Grimaldi at the Collegiate Church of San Nicola in Carcere .

From 1834 to 1840 he was deputy chairman of the Complesso Monumentale di San Michele a Ripa Grande , a mixture of orphanage and children's penitentiary. From his experiences in this hospice he concluded about the functioning of the city's many aid organizations and published in 1835 From the public institutions of charity and the primary school in Rome . This work, published in French in 1841, made him known as an economist . In 1836 he was one of the initiators of the establishment of the Cassa di Risparmio di Roma (Savings Bank of Rome).

On April 21, 1845 he was named titular archbishop of Nisibis . He was ordained bishop on May 25, 1845 in the Church of Santa Maria in Vallicella by Cardinal Luigi Lambruschini ; Co- consecrators were Gaetano Baluffi , Secretary of the Congregation for Bishops and Regulars , and Francesco Brigante Colonna , Prefect of the Pontifical House . Two days earlier, Morichini had been appointed nuncio in Munich , where he arrived on June 22, 1845 and left on July 11, 1847. Pope Pius IX took him on March 15, 1852 as a cardinal priest in the college of cardinals and he received on March 18 of the same year Sant'Onofrio as the titular church . In June 1854, Cardinal Morichini was appointed Bishop of Jesi with the personal title of Archbishop . Pius IX appointed him Archbishop of Bologna on November 24, 1871 and brought him back to the Roman Curia as its secretary in December 1876 . On March 12, 1877, Pius IX raised him. to Cardinal Bishop of Albano . Cardinal Morichini was a participant in the First Vatican Council and the Conclave in 1878 , from which Leo XIII. emerged as Pope.
