Leah Van Dale (born October 23, 1987 in Worcester , Massachusetts , USA ), better known by her ring name Carmella , is an American wrestler , dancer and model . She is currently under contract with World Wrestling Entertainment . She has been one of the most important actresses on the reality show Total Divas since 2017 . Her greatest achievement is receiving the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship .
Career
In June 2013, Van Dale signed a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment . Initially, she was used at NXT , the WWE expansion league. There she got the ring name Carmella.
She made her debut on the September 4, 2014 issue of NXT, where she played a hairdresser. Two weeks later, according to the storyline, she lost her job because of Colin Cassady and Enzo Amore , whereupon the two got her a new job at NXT. So she also became their companion.
She had her first TV match on October 16, 2014 on an NXT edition, where she won against Blue Pants. During her time at NXT she accompanied Colin Cassady and Enzo Amore in their feud against NXT Tag Team Champions Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake and their valet Alexa Bliss .
Their collaboration with Colin Cassady and Enzo Amore ended when they were promoted to the main roster on April 4, 2016.
Her main roster debut took place on July 26, 2016. A week earlier, on July 19, 2016, she was drafted as part of the WWE Draft to WWE SmackDown Live .
In December 2016, she began an alliance with James Ellsworth . With his help, she won the first Women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match at WWE Money in the Bank on June 18, 2017 . She ended her partnership with James Ellsworth in November 2017.
She successfully redeemed her Money in the Bank suitcase at the SmackDown issue after WrestleMania 34 on April 10, 2018 against Charlotte Flair . With this victory, she won the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship for the first time in her career . She then lost the title after 131 days of reign at WWE SummerSlam on August 19, 2018 against Charlotte Flair in a triple threat match in which Becky Lynch was also involved.
Since losing the title, she has only played singles matches and also won the Mixed Match Challenge 2018 with her partner R-Truth , which secured her the Entrance 30 for the Women's Battle Royal for the WWE Royal Rumble 2019, but she won the match Not. On April 7, 2019, she won the WWE Women's Battle Royal at WrestleMania 35 . She participated in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match on May 19, 2019, but did not win the match. On September 23, 2019, she won the WWE 24/7 Championship from R-Truth. The reign lasted 11 days and eventually lost the title to DJ Marshmello on WWE Friday Night SmackDown . However, she won it back the same night and thus began her second reign as 24/7 champion. The reign ended two days after Tamina rolled her backstage at WWE Hell In A Cell 2019. On November 24, 2019, she played a Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match against Natalya , Asuka , Charlotte Flair , Kairi Sane, Sarah Logan, Rhea Ripley, Io Shirai, at the WWE Survivor Series together with Sasha Banks , Dana Brooke, Lacey Evans and Nikki Cross , Bianca Belair , Toni Storm and Candice LeRae. She lost that match.
