center.tv was a local TV station in the Düsseldorf / Rhein-Kreis Neuss / Kreis Mettmann region . The television channel was founded by Andre Zalbertus and went on air on May 2, 2006 as the second branch of the center.tv family. The Rheinische Post media group was brought on board in 2006 and was the broadcaster's parent company.

center.tv in Düsseldorf was the last television station in Germany to broadcast programs under this name. Broadcasting ceased on December 31, 2017. Instead, moving content is distributed via RP Online and other websites.

reception

The station was in the Düsseldorf (except Angermund ) / Neuss / Mettmann regions analogue and received via digital cable in the networks of Unitymedia and NetCologne . The program could also be viewed as a live stream on the website. In 2008, according to the company, a total of 100,000 viewers tuned into center.tv every day.

program

A 24-hour program was broadcast, consisting of information, service, entertainment, culture and sport. As with all local channels, there were many repetitions and blocks with long-term commercials due to the small editorial size . Andre Zalbertus' economic concept envisaged the use of video journalists and amateur journalists .

Regular broadcasts were u. a. Die Nachrichten Düsseldorf Aktuell , as well as the local sports magazine Rheinsport .

Previous stations

Under the name center.tv there were different television stations in several regions of Germany that were either founded as center.tv or later adopted the name center.tv. Today none of the following center.tv stations or their direct successors exist anymore.

center.tv Cologne

The first station was launched in Cologne on October 10, 2005. In addition to programs for the Cologne region, he also broadcast for Bonn and Leverkusen. It could be received analogue and digitally via cable, as well as a live stream via the website and the Internet TV providers Zattoo and Telekom Entertain . Between December 2012 and March 2014, the program, supplemented by Aachen local windows, was also available in the Aachen region . In 2008 the media group M. DuMont Schauberg joined the station and is now the parent company. On September 23, 2014 it was announced that center.tv Cologne would cease broadcasting as of December 31, 2014 and would broadcast as Köln.tv from January 5, 2015 . At the same time, the station moved from Cologne-Butzweilerhof to Cologne Amsterdamer Strasse 192, the headquarters of the new partner M. DuMont Schauberg. On March 31, 2016, DuMont Schauberg ceased broadcasting Köln.tv.

center.tv Bremen

Broadcasting for the cities of Bremen / Bremerhaven started on September 5, 2007.

So far, the station was the only one that could also be received via DVB-T in addition to cable TV broadcasting (Monday to Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. partied with QVC).

On April 30, 2013 the shareholders of center.tv Bremen announced that the continuation of operations could no longer be justified from an economic point of view. Therefore, broadcasting should be stopped by June 30, 2013 at the latest. On May 29, 2013, the Bremische Landesmedienanstalt (brema) announced the discontinuation of center.tv Bremen as of May 31, 2013. The reason is the dissolution of the organizing company. The frequencies previously used by center.tv Bremen were re-assigned on June 1, 2013.

center.tv Ruhr

On March 20, 2008, broadcasting operations for the Ruhr area began.

center.tv for the Ruhr area, the last broadcaster left with founder Zalbertus, filed for bankruptcy in 2012 and ceased broadcasting on May 11, 2012.

center.tv Aachen

The offshoot for the Aachen region went on air on May 5, 2009, as the last offshoot of the original center.tv television station.

On November 12, 2012 it was announced that M. DuMont Schauberg, the majority owner of center.tv Cologne and center.tv Aachen , intends to discontinue the center.tv Aachen program on December 14, 2012. The supporting program of the Cologne sister station ran on the frequency until it was finally discontinued at the end of March 2014, supplemented by content from Aachen and local windows.

On March 31, 2014, it was surprisingly announced that center.tv Aachen would be completely shut down on April 1, 2014.

center.tv Münster

On August 1, 2012, the North Rhine-Westphalian regional broadcaster wm.tv joined the center.tv family of channels and renamed itself accordingly to center.tv Münster . On May 29, 2014 broadcasting was stopped.

center.tv Saar

The start of a regional program in Saarland was planned for September 2009 , but was canceled without explanation.

Awards

In 2009, center.tv Cologne received the Metropolitan 2009 regional television award for reporting on the collapse of the historical archive of the city of Cologne in the category Best Special Production - Heimat compact.spezial Metropolitan 2010 named “Best Presenter”. In 2011 center.tv Ruhr was able to record its first success at the Metropolitan. The “Eurovision Song Contest Special” produced by the moderators Florian Wels and Danny Needürftig was honored in Hamburg in the “Best Special Production” category. In September 2012 center.tv Cologne received the Teacher Welsch Prize for its connection with the Cologne way of life and language.

Center.tv Bremen was awarded the Metropolitan for the first time in October 2012 in the category “Best Regular Magazine” for the program NORDreporter.
