history
The first written mention of the village of Cserneczhaza comes from the year 1470. In a Turkish defter from 1554, the village is registered with 18 houses. There is some evidence that the village was originally inhabited by Serbs. Numerous surnames, but also first names, are of Serbian origin. In 1774 the Austrian functionary Ehler wrote that the village was inhabited by Serbs and Romanians.
On the Josephine land survey of 1717, the place is registered with 52 houses. After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718), when the Banat became a Habsburg crown domain , Csernihaza was part of the Temescher Banat . The place Cernitkais is entered on the Mercy map from 1723 . After the Austro-Hungarian Compromise , Csernegyháza was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the dual monarchy Austria-Hungary . As a result of the Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920, the Banat was divided into three parts, whereby Cerneteaz fell to the Kingdom of Romania . 1924–1925 the place name was Cerneşti . 1956 was Cerneteaz parish seat . Since 1968 Cerneteaz belongs to the municipality of Giarmata.
