Cesare Facchinetti
Cesare Facchinetti (born September 29, 1608 in Bologna , † January 30, 1683 in Rome ) was a cardinal of the Catholic Church .
biography
The son of Marchese Ludovico, who was Bologna's resident representative at the Roman court, and Violante Austriaca di Corregio was the great-nephew of Innocent IX. and nephew of Cardinal Giovanni Antonio Facchinetti de Nuce († 1606). In 1628 he obtained a doctorate in law , in 1632 he went to Rome at the insistence of his father to begin a career at the Curia . He owed his rise to the close relationships he was able to establish with the Barberini , especially with the Cardinal Nepot Francesco Barberini . First he was appointed referendarius utriusque signaturae , after other tasks he was secretary of the Congregation of the Holy Office in 1638 . From 1639 to 1642 he served as Apostolic Nuncio and titular archbishop of Damiata the Spanish court in Madrid , first as an associate representative for concluding an anti-Turkish alliance, which did not materialize, then the successor Lorenzo Campeggis , which he later as Bishop of Senigallia follow should.
On July 13, 1643 he was accepted into the College of Cardinals by Pope Urban VIII . The titular church Santi Quattro Coronati was assigned to him, and in 1671 he moved to San Lorenzo in Lucina . He was Bishop of Senigallia from 1643 to 1655 . Since he could no longer play a role at the Curia after the death of Urban VIII in 1644 and the defeat of the Barberini, he devoted himself mainly to pastoral tasks in his respective dioceses for over two decades, but returned regularly to Rome for longer stays. He also maintained contacts to Spain. He was Archbishop of Spoleto from 1655 to 1672, Cardinal Bishop of Palestrina from 1672 to 1683, of Porto and Santa Rufina from 1679 until his death in 1683. As Dean of the College of Cardinals, he was also Bishop of Ostia from 1680 to 1683.
He died of kidney stones at around 9 a.m. on January 30, 1683 and was buried in the Church of Santa Maria della Scala in Rome.
effect
He did not stand out as a patron, even if the Jesuit Honoré Fabri dedicated his Dialogi physici to him in 1655 , in which he had the cardinal appear as a representative of the Copernican worldview. In the interests of family policy, with the support of the Barberini, he managed to arrange a marriage between his only cousin Violante Facchinetti and Giambattista Pamphili.
