Challenge de France féminin 2008/09

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The competition for the Challenge de France féminin in the 2008/09 season was the eighth play of the French football cup for women's teams . Participation was only compulsory for women in the first and second leagues.

The defending champion was Olympique Lyon , who was eliminated in the semifinals this year. The trophy was won by HSC Montpellier , who came out on top for the third time in their fourth appearance in the final. With the defeated finalists of UC Le Mans , for the first time ever, a second division player was in the final of the French cup competition for women's teams.

The competition was held in the classic cup mode; This means in particular that the respective fixtures were drawn without seed lists or a performance-based or - from the round of 16 - regional pre-sorting of the clubs from all clubs still in competition and only one game was played at the end of which a winner had to be determined (and be it by a penalty shootout  - an extension in the event of a tie after 90 minutes was not provided), which then qualified for the next round, while the loser was eliminated. Home rights were also determined by lot for each match - with the exception of the final, which took place in a neutral place at different locations every year - but with the restriction that clubs that have to compete against an eleven playing at least two league levels higher automatically have home rights got.

After completing the qualifying rounds organized by the regional subdivisions of the FFF regional association , the twelve top division teams also intervened in the round of sixteen .
