Charles Phillip Richard Moth (born July 8, 1958 in Chingola , Northern Rhodesia ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Arundel and Brighton .

Life

Charles Phillip Richard Moth was ordained a priest on July 3, 1982 . He was a pastoral minister in Clapham Park and was a judge at the Diocesan Court in Southwark. After studying canon law in Ottawa, he became a curate in Lewisham and a military chaplain at 217 General Hospital RAMC in 1987. In 1992 he became the private secretary of Archbishop Michael George Bowen . He also assumed the office of Vice Chancellor of the Diocese of Southwark. In 1998 Pope John Paul II appointed him a papal honorary chaplain ( monsignor ). In 2001 he was appointed Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Southwark to succeed John Hine . In 2001 he was appointed prelate of His Holiness .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Military Bishop of Great Britain on July 25, 2009 . He received his episcopal ordination from the Archbishop of Southwark , Kevin John Patrick McDonald , on September 29 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Thomas Matthew Burns SM , Bishop of Menevia , and Michael George Bowen , Old Archbishop of Southwark.

Richard Moth leads the Bishops' Conference Mental Health Project . He was in charge of the British Bishops' Conference for the London 2012 Summer Olympics . In 2012 he followed Terence Brain as prison bishop.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Arundel and Brighton on March 21, 2015 . The inauguration took place on May 28 of the same year.

He is Grand Officer of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
